SATURDAY Sept 15th

The Power of Breath. (Time: 10.30am -12.30pm)

It is said we have 72,000 energy lines running through our bodies, known as nadis. Many of the poses/asanas and pranayamas/breathwork were created to stimulate these energy lines. Through stimulation the Prana moves more smoothly through our bodies helping to remove stagnation and dis-ease creating a healthier body and mind that is more aware of itself.

The Hatha Yoga Pradipika states that the easiest way to manipulate Prana (energy, life force) in the body is through kumbaka (breath retention). Breathing techniques were created to cleanse, clear and ground the practitioner.  Many of these techniques are now being used in pain management, stress relief and helping insomnia. Yogis understood the effects that breath manipulation (pranayama) had not only on the body but also the mind.

We will go over different techniques that can help activate, energize, focus and ground you on and off the mat. Techniques will include Viloma, Kumbaka, Bhramari, Nadis Shodhana, Kapalabhati, Bhastrika, and a few others.

Lila! (Time: 2pm - 4.30pm)

Join Clara Roberts-Oss for a session of Lila/Cosmic Play. This signature class includes mantra, pranayama, meditation as well as a heating vinyasa practice.

This informative workshops address groups of poses that require more explanation or time to investigate. Each workshop will address alignment of more challenging poses, and how these poses manifest in our bodies. Class will begin with a vinyasa flow to warm the body, then move to the workshop aspect of the class. Questions and active participation are encouraged!

SUNDAY sept 16th

Unlocking Our Potential (Time: 10.30am - 1pm)

Ganesha, the elephant deity, is the Lord of New Beginnings, the patron saint of travelers and is most popularly known for removing obstacles in our path so that we may clearly see the way. He is also known for placing obstacles that we are in need of seeing in our path. He is associated with the root chakra, that is at the base of our spines. The root is known as the gateway to awakening. When we are able to release the muscles in the pelvis, it allows the energy and our awareness to move up our spines (shashumna) towards higher consciousness.

Many of our 'obstacles' rest in the hips and pelvic region. This deep hip opening class will focus on releasing hip flexers, quads and gluts so that you may move more freely in your life and to be able to sit in meditation more comfortably. Open to all levels.

It's a Heart thang (Time 2pm - 4.30pm)

We weave the tapestry of our path with threads of heart, energy, and will. The way starts and ends with heart. The first stirrings of the spirit guide our heart toward the path. Without this call we would never begin. Along the way, the closer we approach the Source of all, the more our heart opens. Our commitment and determination to practice grow, coupled with newfound reservoirs of kindness, compassion, and love. But our heart's range extends from the most banal and self-centered desires to the most sublime and hidden depths. Whenever we wish to assess our progress on the path, we need look no further than the state of our heart.

-Joseph Naft, The Sacred Art of Soul Making: Balance and Depth in Spiritual Practice

Join me on a journey to the depths of the heart. Through deep backbends, both partnered and solo, we will open our heart center connecting to the channels of compassion. Weaving deep side waist stretches and hip openers into the vinyasa, we will prepare the body for back bends. After the Bhakti fest of heart openers, we will close with a compassion meditation.

About Clara:

Movement Has Always Being Sacred to me

I have danced my whole life, whether it’s been grooving to a good song, taking dance classes or flowing through a vinyasa, my body can’t get enough. Through movement, I feel as though I’m communing with the Divine.

I took my first vinyasa class in 2000 at Jivamukti Yoga Center. I had a feeling of arriving home. We moved through postures seamlessly with an emphasis of breath-body connection. The class gave me what the dance world didn’t, an emphasis on the internal journey.

I received my 200 hour Vinyasa certification with Lauren Hanna at Sonic Yoga NYC in 2003. I met Shiva Rea shortly thereafter and again, felt as though I had come home. Shiva had created a language for the kind of movement I’ve been doing my whole life. She, too, understood fluidity. Our bodies yearn to move like water and when we do, our bodies hum with excitement. I’ve completed my 300 hour Prana Flow Certfication with Shiva.

I thank all my teachers for sharing their passion of this practice with me: David Life for opening my heart, Stacey Brass for her minute cues that have changed me life, Uma for opening my voice, Dana Flynn for throwing out all the rules and inspiring me to do the same, Constantine Darling for showing me another way, and Paul Ortega for reminding me we are ALL the cosmic dancer.

Clara Roberts-Oss invites you to be playful in your practice, remembering that lightness is found in spirit!
