Breathwork or Pranayama is the practice of using the breath to stimulate the nervous system and regulate our breathing patterns.
The breath is linked to the mind. When the our emotions are troubled, a direct correlation can be felt in our breathing. But because the breath and mind have a reciprocal relationship, in Breathwork, we learn to use the breath to influence our state of mind.
We live in a fast paced world - which can be overstimulating for the mind. Deep breathing and long exhales activate our parasympathetic nervous system (the rest and digest side of us), which counteracts this overstimulation. As breath work can be accessed anywhere and at any time, it makes it a powerful tool for your well being.
The physical benefits of Breathwork include counteracting ineffective breathing patterns, increasing oxygen absorption and heart rate variability (the hearts ability to recover from stress). Mental benefits include reducing stress and anxiety, strengthening attention span and focus.
In this 45 minute workshop, we will explore 3 simple breath practices, which can be practiced again and again on your own. We will also touch upon the science behind Breathwork.
Wear comfortable, warm clothes and bring props and blankets to make yourself comfortable.
